There are a variety of classes taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. These include both the core curriculum and the electives, available from third year forward. In the fifth year, students take the Ordinary Wizarding Level (O.W.L.) exams to determine whether they can achieve a score high enough to continue to N.E.W.T.-level (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test) for the class in the remaining two years. Some classes, including the core classes, may be dropped in sixth year. Even though students cannot apply for Time-Turners to take more classes than are able to fit in the timetables, a student's head of house may suggest a Time-Turner to an individual on very rare occasions. All students do, however, have a choice to drop courses if they become a burden (aside from the essential classes).
OOC (Out Of Character)
Six months in Real Life = One year in RP.
What does this mean for classes and terms?
There are 2 months in real life that mark the beginning of an RP year at Hogwarts.
*April 26th - August 20th
A few tips to keep in mind
*You will be developing your character's strengths and weaknesses in each class.
*The more you participate the more likely you are to be chosen as your house MVP, Prefect or even Head Student!
*TIME TURNERS ARE NOT ALLOWED UNLESS PLOT APPROVED
As above, this is absolutely fine and will not affect anything. It is up to you how many classes you take and how much you can RP during each term.
How many classes do I need to take and which ones?
*All first-years at Hogwarts must take seven subjects: Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, History of Magic, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Astronomy and Herbology. Flying lessons (on broomsticks) are also compulsory, however you need not post in all of those. You may just pretend your character is/has taken them.
*At the end of their second year at Hogwarts, students are required to choose a minimum of two additional subjects from the following list: Arithmancy, Muggle Studies, Divination, Study of Ancient Runes and Care of Magical Creatures.
*Apparition is offered by a Ministry appointed teacher to those sixth and seventh year students who will turn seventeen before the start of the following school year (term here on HSO as each term represents one full year) or are already seventeen. Very specialised subjects such as Alchemy are sometimes offered in the final two years, if there is sufficient demand
*Everyone will move up at the end of the term, so don’t stress about posting in all the classes. Special disclaimer for FIRST YEAR students: You must have joined 30 days prior to the end of the term, have 30 posts and have bought wand, robes and supplies for classes.
*There are NO mandatory subjects OOC. Please read the IC part of this announcement concerning this.
*Each professor decides how they will conduct lessons during the term so please ask the professor or read their rules to decide which classes you wish to take.
Whether you take first year Charms or not, you will as a character, be able to perform the first year spells. This goes for every class, including flying. Again, this will be explained in the IC section. Please familiarize yourselves with the spell list lhere.
Lastly, fifth year and above are allowed to take their O.W.L.S here on HSO, we offer the exam and you will be linked to them once you've started your fifth year. You may only take it once, each OWL will only allow you to take it once, so make you brush up on the study guides before you take the tests which are timed. You have exactly twenty minutes to complete the owls. Anyone who is below a fifth year found with an OWL on their profile that owl will be deleted and you will not be able to sit for the owl exams ever again.
IC (In Character)
The best way to remember how to RP classes etc is to think about the books or films. No matter how we run things OOC, we are all assuming that it takes a year to move up in character and that you are all taking the mandatory classes (or have done) for each year.
Please do not write in your posts that you are late to class just because the lesson has started OOC. You can post that you have been sitting there all along. If you do post that you are late, your professor can and will take points and possibly issue detentions. This also applies for students starting classes half way through the OOC term. Do not post that you haven't been there for half the year. It makes no sense and it will only confuse things.
If you still have questions, please PM Deputy HM Emile Rousseau and she will clarify for you.

“And one more thing. About my name. Artemis, you were right. In London, it is generally a female name, after the Greek goddess of archery. But every now and then a male comes along with such a talent for hunting that he earns the right to use the name. I am that male. Artemis the hunter. I hunted you.”
