The final task was here, and at this point it was a sure thing a lot of people were happy about that. It meant the end of the school year was also here as well, it seemed fitting the task was right before finals. Why not stress the Champions out a little more? They were all on edge this time though, waiting for the other shoe to drop and the final task to happen. Emile made a point to randomly pop up here and there in their paths, just to keep them ready but never taking them. He had a better plan than that, one they weren’t going to like. It was a Friday morning, very early when he’d sent the Professors out to the remaining Champions. One by one they were snatched out of their beds by darkly dressed figures, and it was made sure that the faces of the Professor taking them couldn’t be seen. They were then brought down to the tent where they all met before the tasks started, hopefully none of them had embarrassing PJ’s or everyone would know. Inside the tent the Champions would find the Headmaster at the head of a table full of breakfast food. A portion of the tent was sectioned off for each of them, it had a cabinet, a bed and a curtain they could pull for privacy. “You have a few hours left before dawn, you may sleep a little longer or use the time to prepare. In each of your spaces you will find some of your clothes so you don’t have to go about the arena in your pajamas. Whatever you choose to do is fine, I suggest you eat though, you’ll need your strength.” He told them, allowing them to make their own choice. They could dig all they wanted in their sectioned rooms but all they would find in the cabinet was their set of clothes, no wands and no extras. If they tried to take anything else from the tent to help them in the task they wouldn’t be able to leave the tent until the item was removed from their persons. Emile tucked into some pancakes as if it was a normal morning and waited for the time it was time to start the task.

As the Champions went about their business in the tent the rest of the Castle awoke, getting ready for the day and going down to breakfast to start their morning. Once everyone had finished they were brought to the stands to see the final task of EHC this year, the one that would decide who won it all. It would be funny to see if the winner still thought the glory, the galleons, and the fame would be worth everything they had endured during the Tasks. Soon everyone was settled into the stands, quiet and waiting for the champions to appear. Emile got them ready after their morning in the tent and lead them to the arena, a few professors trailing them in case someone tried to make a break for it. As soon as the crowd spotted their friends and loved ones they erupted into cheers, ready to see what the arena would mean for the Champions this time. Once they were settled in as per tradition the choking cloud of smoke enveloped them as the crowd disappeared and the arena took its form for the challenge. As soon the smoke began to dissipate you noticed a sulfurous rotten-egg smell, it wasn’t pleasant that was for sure but at least it didn’t smell like forest and that had to be a nice change. Slowly the smoke cleared and it revealed the landscape in front of you, which some might now consider better. Ahead of you all you could see for miles was a marsh, and even in you turned around you would find it behind you as well. It is like they had set you right down in the middle, and with how this tournament worked it couldn’t mean anything good.

Dulci might have been in bed when they came to take her to the tent, but she wasn’t asleep. Sleep had always been something that she got very little of and it was even worse now that every time she closed her eyes she saw severed heads floating in a pool of blood. She’d been staring up at the ceiling of the room she shared with Calli and trying to decide if she wanted to just get up and work on school work or continue to lay there. The arrival of the staff member answered that question for her.

Her pajamas weren’t embarrassing, pink shorts and one of Alec’s t-shirts, but she still went and put on actual clothes after searching through her area to see if she could find her wand or anything that might be useful. She knew she wasn’t going to get any sleep and Rousseau was right that getting some food in her was a good idea. Boots, jeans, a tank top, t-shirt and a light jacket made up her outfit and would hopefully be suitable for anything she encountered weather wise. Coming behind Rousseau Dulci made herself a plate that contained what he had taken for his own breakfast before she sat down at the table across from him and stared at him while they ate. She didn’t trust the ass to not do something to the food, however, she needed sustenance and her hope was that he hadn’t drugged the very food he was eating.

Before too long it was time to enter the arena. Once again Dulci didn’t even bother to try and fight breathing in the smoke. It never worked and always just wasted valuable energy. She did wrinkle her nose up at the sulfur like, rotten egg smell that started coming through as the smoke left. The forest was getting old, but she’d prefer another jaunt through it then wherever they were going to be that smelled this awful. Finally, the smoke was completely gone and Dulci was able to look around. A marsh had certainly not been what she was expecting, and it came with its own set of challenges. The first of which was trying to determine which direction to go in. The forest had paths that you could follow and that gave you limited options. This place was full of innumerable options as to which way she could go. Looking around her for a few minutes she eventually set off in a random direction, if she was going the wrong way she was certain something would happen to turn her around.

It was hard to say if the marsh was any better than the forest, it promised to be packed full of horrors so you really couldn’t snap to a judgement yet. You had learned not to trust anything, or if you were smart you hadn’t because coming in with trust and preconceived notions just landed you in a ton of trouble.Thankfully this was the last task though, it was the last time you would have to endure the horrors you’d come to know in this arena. Even though the crowd couldn’t appreciate it you surely did, you’d likely had enough. The only problem was you couldn’t unsee or undo what you’d endured already, it was going to be something you had to live with the rest of your life. At this moment in their lives the Champions certainly had to be wondering if everything they were going through was worth it, if everything that had changed about them was worth all the shit. The answer would likely, and overwhelmingly, be no. Perhaps they would learn not to dive into things blindly, then again they were given no false pretenses about what would happen to them during EHC. Whether they had been naive, or stupid, enough to believe nothing bad would happen then they had made a grievous mistake. With any luck at least one of them wouldn’t go insane for once and maybe pass on something good about the tournament. Okay so maybe that wasn’t realistic but one could hope, not that anyone actually cared what happened to them after. Nothing about their experience or what happened to them in the future would change EHC and how it worked, it was a tradition and one that would not be changing over a bunch of whiney pukes who had gotten exactly what they signed up for. Now that probably wasn’t comforting to the Champions but it wasn’t supposed to be, it was well past time they grew up and faced the realities of the world.

Of all the champions left Dulci was probably the one most well equipped to handle things, she wasn’t always the most well mannered or soft spoken but she was tough as nails and that attitude of her’s was more likely to help her than hinder her. It was hard to tell how she was doing after the last task though, it had to be hard being left in that blood with the heads of the people most dear to her. One would’ve expected more of a reaction than dears out of her over it, it was actually kind of pitiful by her standards. The real question was how was she doing, and was she strong enough to endure the challenges coming in this task after everything else that had happened before now. The tasks were designed to destroy the Champions both physically and mentally, by the end they had to be near a breaking point whether they realized it or not. It was actually kind of fun, okay maybe not for them but for everyone watching it sure was nice and really that was half of why they did what they did during EHC because sometimes traumatizing someone just wasn’t enough for a good show. Setting off in a random direction the Slytherin girl had to be careful, she never knew what could happen to her especially being out in the open and exposed.

The stench of the bog only seemed to be getting worse and to be honest you caught an under hint of something else in the smell as well but you couldn’t place it as much as you tried. The beauty of marshes was just because a path looked stable that didn’t mean it was, one simple step and your foot would be soaking wet and god only knows what was in the water out here considering what you’d endured with the puddles you didn’t trust the water now. In fact it seemed like here and there something appeared to be floating just under surface, however when you looked closer to try and determine if it was real or not it was gone. Of course that wasn’t really surprising considering how everything in the arena was designed to fuck with you and make you think you were crazy even though you weren’t, at least not yet anyways. Further on down you noticed one of the splotches under water that looked differently than the others before, you slowly approached it and this time it didn’t disappear. It wasn’t clear at first but soon enough you realized there was a face in water, in fact it appeared to be a body.

user posted image

You were examining the body in the water when you noticed there were more of them now, in fact any place you looked that had water had a body in it. More faces stared back at you, not all so serene either and it gave you the chills as well as had you wondering what happened. However, you were soon interrupted by a familiar voice. “You are a cheater! You must still pay for your trespasses against me.” Now that you heard the Queen’s voice you didn’t know how you’d missed the rocky outcropping she and her guards were standing on. Looks like you were back in trouble again.

Of course the marsh wasn’t better than the forest. No place they were sent in this awful arena were places you wanted to be, the only difference between them was what nightmare you had to face. Tough as nails or not, all Dulci wanted was for the whole mess to be over with. It had taken her weeks to truly believe that her loved ones whose severed heads she had encountered were actually alive, she’d gone so far as to write it down so she could remind herself whenever she forgot. Even now when she did manage to sleep the nightmares that woke her were of their corpses and no longer of her grandfather’s arrest or being abandoned. So Dulci didn’t give a rat’s arse if her reaction to finding the severed heads of her family was disappointing to people or not, it had been genuine and had been the one thing so far in this whole competition she knew was going to be with her for the rest of her life.

Merlin’s sweaty balls did this place stink. Dulci almost preferred the caterpillar’s smoke from the last challenge, it at least dissipated occasionally. This was like walking through someone’s sweaty foot stink, it was so thick you could almost feel it as you moved. Afraid that the smell would be worse if the water was disturbed, she tread carefully, judging each spot of land before she put her foot down on it. Frankly, she had been in enough dubious pools of water lately and wanted to do everything she could to avoid another one. It was because she was watching the ground so closely that Dulci noticed the shapes floating underneath the water. At first, she didn’t pay them any mind since they were so elusive, writing them off as just fish and continuing on her way. It wasn’t long before she caught sight of something under the water that didn’t disappear as soon as she looked at it. A few short months ago she would have freaked out over seeing a dead body, but not now. Now she was just glad that it wasn’t someone she knew and beyond that, she felt nothing at all about it or its cousins that had begun appearing by the dozens.

Dulci was about to continue on her way, after all standing around staring at dead people wasn’t going to get her closer to the end of this horrendous experience when the voice rang out. Looking up she saw the Queen and her guards standing on the outcrop. Dulci wasn’t at all surprised she had missed them, she’d been so intent on watching her footing that she wasn’t looking around her. Not to mention there was always the possibility that they had just appeared out of nowhere. Either was equally possible, however, it really didn’t matter as the result was still the same. She was going to have to deal with her royal majesty. Dulci shook her head at the Queen. “Nope.” She popped the P at the end of the word before tilting her head and giving an inquisitive look. “Curiouser and curiouser. Have you ever realized that if your guards wanted to they could over power you and take off your head? If they do, might I have it? I think it would lovely on my mantle.” Surprise, surprise. She still had a little of her famed attitude left in her after all.

At this point in the tournament it seemed like it was a lot of “let's just get this the feck over with” coming from the Champions, if they were so unhappy they just should’ve quit. Then again they may not have been aware that quitting was an option, and they probably would’ve gotten a whole bunch of crap from pretty much everyone everywhere but that had to be much better than suffering in the arena. However, at least they’d be free of all the suffering in the tasks. Guess it was just a matter of perspective, and how bad the Champion wanted to win everything at the end of the day. They might deny it but they were still doing this because they wanted to win to prove they were the best and could beat everyone else, not for the money or the shiny cup or the notoriety or whatever bullshit reason they might claim. In fact it was the same way every time they held EHC, even after witnessing the horrors or being told of them people still entered. The people who ran EHC were crystal clear about the event and what occurred, people just didn’t seem to listen or believe it. If it was truly so awful then why would students keep putting themselves on the line for this year after year? There had to be a reason, you know besides sheer stupidity and wanting to possibly ruin their lives forever. It would be more understandable if they were forced to partake in this but they weren’t and never would be, something drove them all to take part and it was coming from something inside of them. What the reasons were didn’t matter, EHC had always been and would likely always be-just with a new set of participants. For these Champions it was almost over but all too soon it would be starting for another set who willingly entered.

It seemed like even after being pretty fucked up in the last task Dulci still had some common sense about her, she knew to avoid the water and the bodies. Call it commons sense or self preservation but it was honestly for the best, if the bodies were in the water they were there for a reason and should likely stay there. Some of them looked fine while others were in varying states of decay giving you the impression that they had likely been there a long time, at least it wasn’t people you knew this time which was only probably a small relief. While in some of the other tasks the arena may have slung Dulcinea in the water just out of spite but she had a much tougher challenge to face ahead of her, so forcing her to suffer needlessly right now just wasn’t going to happen. Although, it was very unlikely that she would take notice or be thankful for it because she was nothing if not an ungrateful heathen at best. “I am aware, however they are loyal and will not betray me.” The Queen told her haughtily, knowing she was right. “You will fight or you will die, the choice is your’s.” The Queen informed her, she had no qualms about killing Dulcinea as she was a mouthy brat.

The Queen looked down at you as if she could sense your death coming, whatever she had in mind for you it appeared she didn’t plan on being on the losing side. There was some shuffling in the back between her guards, ironic given they were cards, and then a familiar face appeared. This face was likely to cause a great deal of cussing from the Champions and was probably why the queen looked so smug. Hatter was her Ace in the hole, no pun intended. Even if you didn’t want to partake in whatever she had planned for you she would have Hatter compel you to take part in whatever fiasco she had planned, didn’t that just figure? Then again did you really expect anything else from EHC? You had no control in here and whatever they wanted to happen to you did, kind of sucked honestly but they had to put on a good show to make things interesting. Besides it’d be far too boring just to let you walk through a field of flowers where your biggest worry was if you were allergic to the plants or not, it’d be terrible and no one would watch it honestly. “You will face my champion. Defeat him and I will let you go, fail and I will kill you.” At least she told you what was going to happen, but you knew there had to be a twist to the whole thing. There was always a catch, it was just how EHC worked. Suddenly something metallic was flying through the air at you. Panic gripped you but somehow you managed to miss the flying object, however it landed in the water which meant you’d have to retrieve it. Once it landed with a splash you were able to see it was a sword, you’d definitely be needing that. “Prepare yourself you fool, I am going to summon my champion.” The Queen smirked. “JABBERWOCKY!” She wailed.

[[OOC: You can say the creature flew in but not describe it. You have to go after the sword or you will be compelled to do so by Hatter.]]

Dulci’s main focus wasn't on winning, it was on proving she was more than what people thought and now that her dirty little secret was out in the open proving that being a Parseltongue didn’t mean there was something wrong with her. That being said, she was competitive so she wasn’t about to just let anyone else win. And while she didn’t need the money or want the notoriety that would come with being the ultimate champion, she wouldn’t mind the shiny cup. Shiny cups were the best kind of cup and she wanted twenty of them. It was worth pointing out that even with all she had gone through and how emotionally damaged she knew the EHC had made her that Dulci would be one of the first to agree that it should continue. Yes, it would haunt her for the rest of her life, but she had gone in knowing that it might. It had also taught her a lot about herself and what she found important.

Avoiding the water was simply Dulci having learned from her previous experiences. At no point in this whole nightmare had falling into any body of liquid been a good thing. Hell, even drinking anything had been bad news. So it stood to reason that all liquid was to be avoided. Any of the other champions who hadn’t yet figured that out deserved whatever nasty thing happened to them. As for the bodies, she wasn’t about to go fishing any of them up. Who knew (except for the designers of the task) what they would do if any of them were disturbed? “But for how long? I mean eventually, they are going to get tired of your bullshit.” The Queen could be as haughty as she wanted, it didn’t change that history showed if a leader kept being as violent as she was toward their citizens those very citizens would get sick of it and end it. History also showed that those rebellions often started with the military. “Wrong. You can’t kill me. It's against the rules.” Torture, yes. Maim, yes. Kill, no. Dulci was a Slytherin after all, she had read the rules backward and forward so she would know best how to break them without actually breaking them.

When the Hatter made his way to the front of the guards Dulci shook her head and rolled her eyes. How unsurprising that she would use that jackass to get what she wanted. Besides finding the heads during the last task, the worst thing that had happened was having the Hatter control her actions. Being alone in her own head was bad enough most of the time, she didn’t need anyone else in there with her. The annoyance of it all made her want to wipe the smug look of the Queen’s ugly face. “Again, you can’t kill me. So since you are lying about that, I have to believe you are lying about everything else you just said.” There was no way the Queen would just let her go. That wasn’t the kind of person she was.

Having spent years playing Quidditch Dulci was used to things flying through the air at her, but considering this wasn’t likely to be a bludger she instinctively ducked. When it landed she was glad she had, no one wanted to take a sword to the face. Not waiting for the Queen to give the Hatter the signal to start controlling her behavior Dulci made her way toward the sword, still being careful to not end up in the water. She stopped and hesitated before just reaching into the water and picking it up. Whatever happened she did was not going be good. Just then the Queen called her a fool and hollered for the Jabberwocky. Not letting herself think about it anymore she plunged her hand down and grabbed the handle of the sword. She didn’t know what a Jabberwocky was, but she certainly didn’t want to face it without some kind of weapon.

This certainly wasn’t what you expected the last task to be was it? It seemed like there was so much more they could do then just having you fight a Jabberwocky, admittedly you didn’t likely know what it was and you were sure if you did it likely wouldn’t behave or be like it was “supposed” to. This had gotten you out of the forest though and that definitely had to be a nice change of pace though, even though it was certain no one would likely favor the marsh over the forest. Either way you were here now and like all the previous tasks you had to make the best of everything, while it might seem like a hard thing to do it wasn’t impossible. Impossible was just a state of mind, and if you believed it then things would follow suit. Although to be fair no one really expected any of the Champions to be smart enough to realize such a thing, they were all rather stupid at best and that was actually putting it rather nicely. The Queen watched you from her vantage point smiling, this was all just entertainment for her and it wasn’t likely to change. Refusing her would be ideal but you knew you didn’t have a choice with Hatter present, not being able to make your own choices about things actually sucked. Although, it was a good measure put in place to ensure that you behaved during the tasks and performed as expected, they couldn’t make a big spectacle of this whole thing if you refused to do the tasks. That still didn’t make it right though, but as you had learned everything in this tournament seemed to fall into a gray area- it wasn’t considered right but it wasn’t far enough that it was over the line that they’d get in trouble.

Dulci was truly one of a kind no matter what anyone said, she lacked proper temperament of course but she had her own “charm”. She seemed to be the only one who understood there was a bigger purpose to what was happening to her in here, everyone else was too stupid and thought it was only about being sadistic. “Child I assure you the only bull shit they tire of is your own.” The Queen informed her haughtily. It was true too, the cards would do anything for the Queen and never betray her regardless of what Dulcinea thought. The Queen rolled her eye’s at the girl’s next statement but didn’t bother to justify it with an answer, the Queen had no rules and she would kill whoever she pleased whenever she pleased. Of course Dulci had to plunge in the water after the sword, she’d get wet too which had been the point. A blistering rash appeared on her arm, which was itchy beyond all reason. However, like everything in this task, doing what you wanted to most was a bad idea. As soon as itched the rash would swell with pustules that exploded releasing a sticky and foul smelling discharge that attracted fire ants.

The flapping of wings was clear overhead and the wind created by the wings was overpowering, if you didn’t grab ahold of something you’d surely get knocked over. The beast landed nearby, the ground shook with the force and the weight of the creature’s touch down. It stood a good deal larger than you and had three heads containing sets of vicious looking teeth, you had the sneaking suspicion that you had better be careful. The sulfur smell that had permeated the air was now replaced with the smell of decay, and of course the only clear explanation of why was the Jabberwocky. Each head likely had a purpose and function, and it was almost certain that you would find out soon enough what each one did whether you wanted to or not which just had you filled with exhilaration. The Creature ignored you right now for the time being, which you weren’t sure if it was a blessing or intentional. Either way your odds of fighting this thing didn’t seem great even if you had your want, no wonder the Queen was so smug about this whole thing. Her intentions of killing you had been clear since she’d seen you, while you may not have realized it that was certainly the case. “You should probably just quit now.” Her sweet voice called from her vantage point, obviously it was just meant to try and screw with your head. You knew you had no choice now, even if you refused she would make you take part in this asinine charade. “Prepare yourself or if you’re too scared give up now.” She called. Everyone stood staring at you, waiting to see what your decision would be.

The reason Dulci might have understood the EHC had a greater purpose when none of the remaining champions did was that she was the only pureblood. While she didn’t believe that made her any better than them, it did mean she had been raised differently. Traditions, no matter how silly, were important. You might complain about them in private, but in public, you put on a united front and supported them. Or maybe she understood because she was a Slytherin and that was not the house for people who believed that the world was fair or that things should be changed just because someone didn’t like it or got hurt. Whatever the reason was understanding that there was a greater reason didn’t make it any easier to deal with mentally.

“They wouldn’t be the first.” Dulci shrugged off the Queen’s words. Let the Queen think what she wanted, no one could command true loyalty through fear and intimidation. If they continued existing after the task was over she’d find out eventually that she was making a mistake in her behavior. After pulling the sword out of the water Dulci scratched at her arm without thinking, only to take down at her arm in horror. The sticky, gross gunk that started oozing from her arm was high up there on the nastiest thing that had ever happened to her, and that was even before the fire ants started swarming and biting her. She started swatting at them in a futile attempt to get them off herself because many of them were climbing up underneath her pant leg. Of course, insects would be involved again, she hated insects.

Dulci didn’t have the time to freak out too much over the fire ants before the Jabberwocky showed up. She’d been expecting something along the lines of a dragon, but the three heads and the smell of decay threw her for a loop. She never wanted to smell death again, her house was always going to smell fresh and clean even if she had to scrub it by hand every day. It was a smell that haunted her now and anything that smelled remotely bad was enough to make her breath quicken and need to go remind herself that she wasn’t currently in danger and that the family she’d put together for herself weren’t dead.

Quitting wasn’t an option, quitting was never an option. Losing while doing your best sucked, but there was no shame in that. But quitting, that was unacceptable. Quitting meant you were admitting that you weren’t good enough, and she’d signed herself up for this in the first place to prove that she was good enough. “I don’t quit. Ever.” Dulci’s voice didn’t waver, even though she was terrified. Anyone with any sense would be, even with the knowledge that they couldn’t be killed. Being tortured wasn’t her idea of fun and she suspected being bitten by a giant three headed dragon creature would hurt far worse than being bitten by a wolf had. Her left arm might not work as well it used to, but at least she still had it.

The moment of truth was here, no matter what you wanted to believe you had to fight this monstrous creature, it wasn’t a matter of choice in this case. How they actually expected you to win you couldn’t be sure, but then again like most things in EHC they probably didn’t want you to win and that was the point. The Jabberwocky roared fiercely as if waiting impatiently for your answer, like it or not you were stuck here right now and everyone was waiting on you. It was nice to have a moment to gather yourself together and prepare for what was coming, however you knew it couldn’t last and if you didn’t get a move on soon they’d force you to like it or not. Looking at the majestic Jabberwocky you couldn’t help but notice how the sun reflected off it’s grey scales, even if you had your wand it was very likely the spells would just rebound off those scales. The last thing you needed to happen was to be shooting off a spell and it rebound on yourself, maybe it was better you didn’t have your wand in this case even if it would bring you some comfort. You looked over the beast trying to assess it for any weakness while you had the time, it would be a lot harder to try and find something on the fly but then again you would be able to see more of it as it was moving around. From your current vantage point you couldn’t make out any besides the eyes, perhaps the webbing of the wings if you could manage to cut them. Grounding the beast would be a definite advantage for you but in order to do that you had to be able to get close enough to do it, and that would bring you in direct range of the heads which just seemed like an all around bad idea. No telling what any one of those heads could do, but you had the sinking feeling you’d soon find out.

Dulcinea was definitely the one Champion remaining who understood the true meaning of tradition and the purpose the EHC served in the school, the rest of the Champions were too stupid to figure it out but that wasn’t very surprising to be honest as they were a rather stupid bunch all and all when you looked at them. They spent far too much time bemoaning their fate and how unfair the world was to them endlessly, even after they had willingly committed to partaking in the madness but no one was about owning their responsibility it seemed. If Dulci hadn’t figured it out by now she never would, but fighting with the Queen was much like trying to tell herself something or fighting with herself-completely and utterly pointless. Of course Dulci might not like to hear that but it was a reality of life, and a reality check wouldn’t hurt her at all. In fact it might help check the attitude she had but no one was counting on that, with an attitude that big there was nothing on the earth that could help it and Dulci would’ve had to wanted to do something about changing it too which we all knew she didn’t or wouldn’t ever want to. It seemed like while she talked a good game the Slytherin girl was more affected by the last task then she let on, the stench of the Jabberwocky revealed it which only delighted the beast even more. “Today that will change Bratling.” The Queen informed her, face twisting in a snarl.

The Jabberwocky shift back and forth clearly impatient for the command from the Queen to attack, you had to admit she had the beast under her thumb. It was clear the beast was anxious to come after you but wouldn’t until she commanded it to do so, so you were safe until she gave the order then all feck would break loose. The Queen looked at you, eyes clearly filled with loathing for you and it was clear to see she was ready to begin this. “Attack!” She cried, voice shrill with excitement. The Jabberwocky didn’t hesitate and launched itself in the air at her command, that made it difficult to fight but you had expected that as soon as you saw it could fly. Soon it was circling you above, it was clear at this point it was just wanting to toy with you. It was likely it would continue to do so until it was bored then it would get serious about finishing you off, and that was certain to be a rip roaring good time. Speaking of roaring the middle head of the beast did that exactly, causing drops of green to rain down on you from above. While it was just annoying at first it soon began to burn you like acid and eat away at your skin, well if that wasn’t just wonderful. Glaring up at it you locked eyes with the head on the right which turned out to be a bad choice, as soon as you did your head was filled with awful screaming. It took a moment for you to realize what it was but when you did it surely made you wish you hadn’t, it was the screams of people you loved and it was clear they were being tortured. Gods you just wanted it to stop.

[[OOC: You have to get hit by some of the acid, how much is up to you. Please describe in detail who your character hears screaming, you can include specific dialect if you wish. Make sure you RP out your character breaking eye contact with the head on the right. Also make sure you try and entice the beast down so your character can engage it. You cannot pick what the third head does, that will be revealed later.]]

That was the thing though, they didn’t expect you to win your fight against the Jabberwocky, or the Queen, or any of the other creatures you had been up against since the EHC started. You weren’t competing against them. You were competing against the other champions. That’s part of what made the whole competition so hard, you were trying to beat people whose actions you had no clue on. It wasn’t just your fellow students you were competing against, you were competing against yourself as well. As far as Dulci was concerned that was the hardest part, trying to do better than she thought she was capable of.

The world wasn’t fair, Dulci had figured that out before she had hit the double digits. It sucked to find that out, but most of the time you couldn’t do anything about it. The best thing to do was pull up your big girl panties and deal with it. Dulci would be the first person to tell you she had a huge attitude problem. More than once she had compared herself to a cactus. She knew it kept others at bay and made people dislike her based on assumptions. But that same attitude is what had gotten her through all the crap life had thrown at her. So no, she didn’t want to change it just because it made her unpopular. Having an attitude didn’t mean she was heartless and only a heartless person would have been unaffected by what they had seen in the last task. However, it was never a good idea to show your enemies a weakness if you could help it. With that in mind, she just gave the Queen an uncommitted look. “Maybe. Nothing’s impossible.”

The moment the Queen ordered the Jabberwocky to attack and it lifted up into the air Dulci raised the sword in a defensive manner only to realize she had a major problem. Being bitten and clawed at by the Inferi during the last task had only served to further damage her left shoulder. On top of that because the wounds were made by a dark creature they had to be left to heal on their own. Which it had...for the most part. Her shoulder was still weak and that coupled with the gripping issues she was left with after the pre-task meant that her plan had just gone out the window. As she had been surveying the Jabberwocky Dulci had determined the best course of action would be to aim for its underbelly while it was up in the air. There was no way that she was going to be able to do that though.

As Dulci was attempting to formulate a new plan while figuring out a way to lower the sword without advertising her weak spot the Jabberwocky’s middle head spit out acid. Everywhere it landed it started to burn, first through her clothing and then her skin. Because she was not always the smartest Dulci had her face turned upward allowing some of the acid to land on her face. Screaming she dropped the sword down, holding it at her side while she used her shirt to wipe off her face the best she could.

Dulci’s next mistake was looking back up to glare at the Jabberwocky. Not that she expected it to be impressed, but glaring at things that annoyed her was her favorite hobby and she’d given up fighting the urge to do so ages ago. The problem was that the minute she did so the screaming started. It took a moment for her to distinguish who it was, but when she did a look of horror crossed her face. It was all of the people she cared about whose heads she had found the last task. Dulci was trying to remind herself that they weren’t really dead, but hearing what must have happened to them before they had their heads cut off was making it hard to remember that their screams weren’t real. The adults were bad enough, but it was was the shrill shrieks of the twins that really got to her. Dulci screwed her eyes shut tight to keep from crying. Breaking eye contact seemed to make the screaming stop. Dulci decided to chalk that up as a small blessing in a sea of awful.

Since she physically couldn’t fight the Jabberwocky while it was in the air Dulci needed to get the beast to the ground. Her only real idea on how to get that done was to make it think she was in more distress than she was, which shouldn’t be too hard considering she was still hearing after echoes of the screams in her head. Keeping the Jabberwocky in her vision Dulci folded in on herself like she was breaking down. Still being careful to not get in the water. The acid had gotten rid of many of the fire ants, she didn’t want them to come back on top of everything else.

The Champions were now past the point of no return whether they liked it or not, the Jabberwocky was after them and it was, thankfully, the final task. It had taken monumental effort to get here but you had to wonder if after everything they even considered it worth it after everything, probably not but that was their fault for entering. Perhaps next term everyone who considered entering would heed better than these Champions had, and they would truly consider the risk. Then again the promise of Eternal Glory blinded many people until it was far too late, it was a beautiful thing in most cases honestly. Of course anyone participating might not agree with that assessment but that didn’t matter, you reaped what you sowed whether it was a good or bad decision and all you could do was own what you’d done. The Queen was watching the Jabberwocky circle overhead, she cackled as the acid landed on your skin. Of course she would be pleased to see you maimed again, she had been plotting your demise since the moment she saw you so you really shouldn’t be surprised. Then again all the characters here seemed to relish in your pain, it wasn’t the most pleasant thing and surely made you a touch irritable. However, it just went to show you there were awful people in the world who would take joy in your failures and pains. It didn’t necessarily make it right but it still happened whether you liked it or not, the world was a rough place and you needed to be prepared for whatever it chose to throw at you.

Dearest Dulcinea was a smart girl, but entirely too mouthy for her own good. One would’ve figured she would’ve learned how to shut her oversized ever flapping maw by now but clearly she still found herself incapable of such a thing, however no one was surprised. However, she was smart enough to realize that she was competing against the others partaking in the contest but struggled because she had no idea what they were doing. It added a little element of fun and unknown, not to mention that meant judging was a lot more of a surprise when results were announced. Seems like the girl was more than just a whole lot of flapping maw, not much more than that but she had a little bit of brains in that oversized head but it was clearly not an abundance by any means. Seemed like the other tasks were coming back to bite Dulci, pun intended. While all the other Champions handled the sword with ease she struggled, that would make this whole thing a lot more interesting to watch as she faced imminent death from above. In fact it was delightful, as soon as the Queen squealed in delight. This game had just gotten so much more exciting for her.

It seemed like for the time being the head on the right had to be the worst, but then again if the one on the left was waiting to reveal it’s powers then it had to be infinitely worse. The Queen hooted, cheering on her champion and the guards joined in with her. Of course Hatter was silent again, it seemed like someone had sewed his mouth back up so he wasn’t spitting bugs anymore. Even still you knew he was dangerous if he decided to use his telepathy, that was a constant threat you had to be aware of. If you hadn’t figured it out by now you would soon learn the Queen would not give you a fair fight, she would cheat or do whatever she had to if it assured she was the one who came out victorious. But then again wasn’t that anyone at the end of the day? That meant you had to do everything you possibly could to tip the scales in your favor, even though the Queen would surely cry foul if you did it. Now that the beast had released you from the horrible screams of your loved ones you did your best to avoid it’s eyes. As it flew around you stepped around, trying to follow it so it didn’t come down and surprise you. Unfortunately that meant you had to keep your eyes on the sky and not on where you were stepping, that made things extremely tricky given the terrain of your battlefield. Your left foot slipped into the water and suddenly it was seized by one of the bodies in the marsh. The faces in the water had now changed from humanoid to something more sinister and it was clear you had to get away because if you didn’t they would pull you in and drown you.

[[OOC: RP out getting away from the bodies in the marshes, be creative in how you do it. Remember even as your character struggles they still face the threat from the Jabberwocky above who can rain acid on them on torture them with the screams.]]
