The final task was here, and at this point it was a sure thing a lot of people were happy about that. It meant the end of the school year was also here as well, it seemed fitting the task was right before finals. Why not stress the Champions out a little more? They were all on edge this time though, waiting for the other shoe to drop and the final task to happen. Emile made a point to randomly pop up here and there in their paths, just to keep them ready but never taking them. He had a better plan than that, one they weren’t going to like. It was a Friday morning, very early when he’d sent the Professors out to the remaining Champions. One by one they were snatched out of their beds by darkly dressed figures, and it was made sure that the faces of the Professor taking them couldn’t be seen. They were then brought down to the tent where they all met before the tasks started, hopefully none of them had embarrassing PJ’s or everyone would know. Inside the tent the Champions would find the Headmaster at the head of a table full of breakfast food. A portion of the tent was sectioned off for each of them, it had a cabinet, a bed and a curtain they could pull for privacy. “You have a few hours left before dawn, you may sleep a little longer or use the time to prepare. In each of your spaces you will find some of your clothes so you don’t have to go about the arena in your pajamas. Whatever you choose to do is fine, I suggest you eat though, you’ll need your strength.” He told them, allowing them to make their own choice. They could dig all they wanted in their sectioned rooms but all they would find in the cabinet was their set of clothes, no wands and no extras. If they tried to take anything else from the tent to help them in the task they wouldn’t be able to leave the tent until the item was removed from their persons. Emile tucked into some pancakes as if it was a normal morning and waited for the time it was time to start the task.

As the Champions went about their business in the tent the rest of the Castle awoke, getting ready for the day and going down to breakfast to start their morning. Once everyone had finished they were brought to the stands to see the final task of EHC this year, the one that would decide who won it all. It would be funny to see if the winner still thought the glory, the galleons, and the fame would be worth everything they had endured during the Tasks. Soon everyone was settled into the stands, quiet and waiting for the champions to appear. Emile got them ready after their morning in the tent and lead them to the arena, a few professors trailing them in case someone tried to make a break for it. As soon as the crowd spotted their friends and loved ones they erupted into cheers, ready to see what the arena would mean for the Champions this time. Once they were settled in as per tradition the choking cloud of smoke enveloped them as the crowd disappeared and the arena took its form for the challenge. As soon the smoke began to dissipate you noticed a sulfurous rotten-egg smell, it wasn’t pleasant that was for sure but at least it didn’t smell like forest and that had to be a nice change. Slowly the smoke cleared and it revealed the landscape in front of you, which some might now consider better. Ahead of you all you could see for miles was a marsh, and even in you turned around you would find it behind you as well. It is like they had set you right down in the middle, and with how this tournament worked it couldn’t mean anything good.

David had been paranoid the first time the Headmaster had popped up. The next task.... Then he had simply talked about classes and how he was faring. A few side remarks about his focus and practicing his ability then they parted ways. It had unnerved him more than he had let on for the next few weeks. Then again, and more frequently a professor or the Headmaster would show up randomly behind him. It had gotten to the point where the Hufflepuff teen was more paranoid than he had been during the first two tasks. He was still having nightmares of losing everyone, his grades had marks had improved slightly, if only because he was now determined to work hard so he could protect his friends.

He had started stressing over final tests coming up. He could have sworn that he was excused, but with the way life seemed to be going at the moment, he was studying just as hard as everyone else. Next year would be OWLs! He sighed heavily and rolled over and tried to go back to sleep. He had been having a picnic with Jai and opened the basket to see Theresa's head staring at him in pain and agony. The dreams would hopefully stop. Hopefully. Then a sound, a barely audible swish, caught his attention, but before he could react, a stronger person grabbed him and began whisking him away. They were moving quickly and David was still just groggy enough that he was not fully comprehending what was happening until he was standing with the remaining Champions in an all too familiar tent and being given instruction.

David caught the words: sleep, food, clothes. He smirked as he felt embarrassed in his shorts and tee shirt, then went sleepily into his assigned area and began to change clothes. Sadly the teen had not been prepared and taken anything from his dorm and simply had the clothes that were provided. Slipping them on quickly, he went to eat a big breakfast but found he had no appetite. David could not help but wonder what everyone else was thinking, but decided his own well being was more worth while at the moment. Sighing and forcing down some bacon, fried eggs and toast to keep the coffee down, David set off and lay down on the cot provided him. The ceiling held no answers and refused to give him a suggestion to a new question. What now?

David let his mind wander. It was almost better than falling asleep since he was resting his body and letting his mind do what it wanted unfettered. Slowly shadows started to appear and he could tell the sun was breaking over the grounds. He imagined what Jai was doing. David thought she might miss him at breakfast, but he usually tried to eat breakfast outside any way. Then classes... Well, no. She'll know as soon as everyone starts heading to the stadium. David sighed and sat up. Sighed again, and began a slow, somber pacing of his cubicle. He wanted to do this. It was time.

Sooner than he had expected, the time really had come. David felt rested, inconsequential and yet, like the most important person in the world. He hated it. Once he reached his designated spot and stopped, David looked around and shook his head. He had only thought of quitting once, maybe twice, but still would have never given up. He had given his word. This was just another test. It's all real, but it's not. He had been repeating that to himself the moment he had seen Jai's face after the last task. He had to keep his head. A grim smile crossed his face as the smoke began to surround him. He knew it was useless to resist, so instead of fighting the teen began to breath it in deeply. Still choking and coughing as much as he ever had, David doubted again that he would ever pick up the habit.

As everything began to clear, David noticed that things were different. The smoke had the smell of sulfur and he was reminded of the eggs he had eaten for breakfast. This time everything seemed to clear from his location outward. There were no trees, no high canopy, no rotting cellar of blood. A bog? Marsh? David simply knew he stood in the midst of a low-land area. He already felt exposed and without a wand to defend himself, he felt hopeless. David crouched and searched quickly for tracks in his area while keeping alert for anything that may be coming towards him. First, find out where I need to go. Second, go.

It was hard to say if the marsh was any better than the forest, it promised to be packed full of horrors so you really couldn’t snap to a judgement yet. You had learned not to trust anything, or if you were smart you hadn’t because coming in with trust and preconceived notions just landed you in a ton of trouble.Thankfully this was the last task though, it was the last time you would have to endure the horrors you’d come to know in this arena. Even though the crowd couldn’t appreciate it you surely did, you’d likely had enough. The only problem was you couldn’t unsee or undo what you’d endured already, it was going to be something you had to live with the rest of your life. At this moment in their lives the Champions certainly had to be wondering if everything they were going through was worth it, if everything that had changed about them was worth all the shit. The answer would likely, and overwhelmingly, be no. Perhaps they would learn not to dive into things blindly, then again they were given no false pretenses about what would happen to them during EHC. Whether they had been naive, or stupid, enough to believe nothing bad would happen then they had made a grievous mistake. With any luck at least one of them wouldn’t go insane for once and maybe pass on something good about the tournament. Okay so maybe that wasn’t realistic but one could hope, not that anyone actually cared what happened to them after. Nothing about their experience or what happened to them in the future would change EHC and how it worked, it was a tradition and one that would not be changing over a bunch of whiney pukes who had gotten exactly what they signed up for. Now that probably wasn’t comforting to the Champions but it wasn’t supposed to be, it was well past time they grew up and faced the realities of the world.

The tasks were created for the sole purpose of destroying what's left of these kids' innocence. And so far, it seemed to be working on the Hufflepuff boy. Truth be told, his ambition and self-control have brought him to the very last task. If he can make it through this without licking a mirror or trying to pet a dragon, he would surely win the Eternal House Championship, bringing himself eternal glory and fame. If not, these days would only be remembered as bad memories he tries to escape, but fail to do so. Even the champion of the last EHC disappeared from their world and while she was the strongest of them all, people were talking among themselves about how she's living in a haunted mansion now, similar to the one she's been in at her final task. Merlin knows what would happen to David after entering this task but surely more embarrassing and saddening events were ahead.

The stench of the bog only seemed to be getting worse and to be honest you caught an under hint of something else in the smell as well but you couldn’t place it as much as you tried. The beauty of marshes was just because a path looked stable that didn’t mean it was, one simple step and your foot would be soaking wet and god only knows what was in the water out here considering what you’d endured with the puddles you didn’t trust the water now. In fact it seemed like here and there something appeared to be floating just under surface, however when you looked closer to try and determine if it was real or not it was gone. Of course that wasn’t really surprising considering how everything in the arena was designed to fuck with you and make you think you were crazy even though you weren’t, at least not yet anyways. Further on down you noticed one of the splotches under water that looked differently than the others before, you slowly approached it and this time it didn’t disappear. It wasn’t clear at first but soon enough you realized there was a face in water, in fact it appeared to be a body.

user posted image

You were examining the body in the water when you noticed there were more of them now, in fact any place you looked that had water had a body in it. More faces stared back at you, not all so serene either and it gave you the chills as well as had you wondering what happened. However, you were soon interrupted by a familiar voice. “You are a cheater! You must still pay for your trespasses against me.” Now that you heard the Queen’s voice you didn’t know how you’d missed the rocky outcropping she and her guards were standing on. Looks like you were back in trouble again.

The water seemed too high, or too low. The muck, muck and mire seemed to shift constantly. David had no good footing, nor did he notice any particular path or trail that might have been new. It frustrated him. This he knew he was good at, so why could he find neither hide nor hair. Again, the grim smile. Apparently his humor had become as dark as the designer of these trials, but at least he took no joy. David simply found himself believing life was more a big joke and if you didn't laugh then the only thing left was tragedy.

A few falls after missed steps left David with muddy arms and legs. Definitely nothing noticeable compared to the things he had been through, but he felt solid objects below, but could never grab them quickly enough to find out what they were. Maybe it was best that he hadn't been quick enough though? He decided next time he'd try and look a bit; sure enough another deep hole brought him nearly face to face with the polluted water. He saw a shadow of what could have been a face, but he quickly pushed the thought from his mind. He didn't want to see more severed heads, and started to march off with a better look at his footing.

Unfortunately he started seeing more pools of water than there were before, and all of them seemed to be holding... At least it wasn't a severed head, and the bodies did not seem to be moving around like the inferi. David moved on to the next body of water with a floating corpse and bent low to begin inspecting the body. He could not tell what had happened to the person and his curiosity got the better of him.

David jolted upright. He had just been about to pull the body out of the water to figure out what had happened when the booming and authoritative voice broke his concentration. Looking around, he noticed, for the first time, an actual outcropping of rocks. I should've notice and headed there... His thought was cut short as he realized what 'paying' might mean as he looked at the surrounding faces in various states of rest. He could only hope he would have a serene look on his face.

David was tired of running, and he felt the pain and rage from the previous task return to give him strength. Standing up as straight as he could, refusing to run and not accepting failure, David decided to approach the party. Besides, he would never have been able to out run all of them.

At this point in the tournament it seemed like it was a lot of “let's just get this the feck over with” coming from the Champions, if they were so unhappy they just should’ve quit. Then again they may not have been aware that quitting was an option, and they probably would’ve gotten a whole bunch of crap from pretty much everyone everywhere but that had to be much better than suffering in the arena. However, at least they’d be free of all the suffering in the tasks. Guess it was just a matter of perspective, and how bad the Champion wanted to win everything at the end of the day. They might deny it but they were still doing this because they wanted to win to prove they were the best and could beat everyone else, not for the money or the shiny cup or the notoriety or whatever bullshit reason they might claim. In fact it was the same way every time they held EHC, even after witnessing the horrors or being told of them people still entered. The people who ran EHC were crystal clear about the event and what occurred, people just didn’t seem to listen or believe it. If it was truly so awful then why would students keep putting themselves on the line for this year after year? There had to be a reason, you know besides sheer stupidity and wanting to possibly ruin their lives forever. It would be more understandable if they were forced to partake in this but they weren’t and never would be, something drove them all to take part and it was coming from something inside of them. What the reasons were didn’t matter, EHC had always been and would likely always be-just with a new set of participants. For these Champions it was almost over but all too soon it would be starting for another set who willingly entered.

Oh dear, it seemed like David was far too stupid for his own good. David hadn’t been watching his footing which was bad luck, soon a rash began to erupt on his leg. It had occasional bumps that looked like oversized blackheads, if popped blood and leeches would come from them and the leeches would attach themselves to his legs.He might of thought he was doing something good and helpful by pulling the body from the water but it was just stupidity, they should’ve been left because nothing good would come of them. As soon as he had the body out it’s eyes opened revealing milky white pupils, and then it’s hands reached up and began choking the boy with all it’s strength. David was probably getting light headed by the time a voice called out. “Enough!” The Queen commanded and the body stopped, crawling back to it’s original position in the water where David had plucked it from. As soon as David got within five feet of the rocky outcropping the party was standing on he his an invisible wall, he would not be able to reach them.

The Queen looked down at you as if she could sense your death coming, whatever she had in mind for you it appeared she didn’t plan on being on the losing side. There was some shuffling in the back between her guards, ironic given they were cards, and then a familiar face appeared. This face was likely to cause a great deal of cussing from the Champions and was probably why the queen looked so smug. Hatter was her Ace in the hole, no pun intended. Even if you didn’t want to partake in whatever she had planned for you she would have Hatter compel you to take part in whatever fiasco she had planned, didn’t that just figure? Then again did you really expect anything else from EHC? You had no control in here and whatever they wanted to happen to you did, kind of sucked honestly but they had to put on a good show to make things interesting. Besides it’d be far too boring just to let you walk through a field of flowers where your biggest worry was if you were allergic to the plants or not, it’d be terrible and no one would watch it honestly. “You will face my champion. Defeat him and I will let you go, fail and I will kill you.” At least she told you what was going to happen, but you knew there had to be a twist to the whole thing. There was always a catch, it was just how EHC worked. Suddenly something metallic was flying through the air at you. Panic gripped you but somehow you managed to miss the flying object, however it landed in the water which meant you’d have to retrieve it. Once it landed with a splash you were able to see it was a sword, you’d definitely be needing that. “Prepare yourself you fool, I am going to summon my champion.” The Queen smirked. “JABBERWOCKY!” She wailed.

[[OOC: You can say the creature flew in but not describe it. You have to go after the sword or you will be compelled to do so by Hatter.]]

David gasped at the boils that were coming up on his legs. They were more painful than any he had ever gotten before. His first impulse was to pop them, but knew from experience that it would only make it worse. Not to mention it felt like they were swimming? He couldn't decide if that were the right word or not, but that was the feeling he had. Though, as it seemed to always happen, either in these god forsaken tasks, or even in the real world, one of them burst. The pain brought tears to David's eyes, but he squinted through it as he noticed that there were leeches now squirming from the few holes in his skin to latch onto the veins in his legs. Diabhal! He scraped off what parasites he could before continuing to pull out the body.

His curiosity was the worst thing that could have controlled him at that point, but he had wanted to know. As soon as the face broke water, David noticed a faint similarity to the inferi that had attacked him in the previous task. These are just preserved? As soon as the thought had formed, so had a noose made of abnormally strong fingers. They slipped quickly and silently around his throat. David squirmed at first in panic. Everyone was alive. He still had a chance. He had to save them. His thoughts went wild for the first few precious seconds before his fight instinct kicked in and he began to calmly attempt to pry at the fingers, with no hope. As the edges of his vision began to blacken and his arms no longer had the oxygen to keep the muscles moving, David heard a commanding voice bellow for a halt.

Gasping as he watched the corpse slink back into its murky, watery preservation pod, David attempted to get feeling in his arms and throat. His lungs burned as they heaved in heavy rasps. Forgetting, or more likely ignoring, the rest of the pools, the Hufflepuff teen began his long trudge to the rocky outcropping. As he got within a meter or two from them he noticed his movement had become impaired. As he began to step across he always ended up turned around, but in the same place. The first few times it amused him as the feeling was new, but he was frustrated at not being able to move on.
QUOTE
“You will face my champion. Defeat him and I will let you go, fail and I will kill you.”
Well that seemed par for the course. The cards did not seem too tough, all he'd have to do is be more agile and try and disarm them. His knowledge of muggle fantasy novels were about to come in handy. Then more from awareness, or hopefully whomever had tossed was just that good... David looked aside to see a sword implant itself a few feet into the water behind him. The thought of going back to the water was just a horrible option.
QUOTE
“Prepare yourself you fool, I am going to summon my champion.” The Queen smirked. “JABBERWOCKY!”

That was it! He was tired of being manipulated, but took another look at the Hatter and cringed. He hated the feeling of someone else having been in his mind, he doubted he could fight it successfully after his last near death experience being so soon. David decided to take his life in his own hands. If the queen was going to summon a champion, he would have the sword first. As he rushed as fast as his wounded and tired legs would go, he heard a swoosh! He looked up but saw nothing. David splashed his way to the sword and could have sworn he heard another sound of cutting air as he placed his hand on the hilt. As he began to tug, David could have sworn he heard a thud as if a large creature had landed behind him.

This certainly wasn’t what you expected the last task to be was it? It seemed like there was so much more they could do then just having you fight a Jabberwocky, admittedly you didn’t likely know what it was and you were sure if you did it likely wouldn’t behave or be like it was “supposed” to. This had gotten you out of the forest though and that definitely had to be a nice change of pace though, even though it was certain no one would likely favor the marsh over the forest. Either way you were here now and like all the previous tasks you had to make the best of everything, while it might seem like a hard thing to do it wasn’t impossible. Impossible was just a state of mind, and if you believed it then things would follow suit. Although to be fair no one really expected any of the Champions to be smart enough to realize such a thing, they were all rather stupid at best and that was actually putting it rather nicely. The Queen watched you from her vantage point smiling, this was all just entertainment for her and it wasn’t likely to change. Refusing her would be ideal but you knew you didn’t have a choice with Hatter present, not being able to make your own choices about things actually sucked. Although, it was a good measure put in place to ensure that you behaved during the tasks and performed as expected, they couldn’t make a big spectacle of this whole thing if you refused to do the tasks. That still didn’t make it right though, but as you had learned everything in this tournament seemed to fall into a gray area- it wasn’t considered right but it wasn’t far enough that it was over the line that they’d get in trouble.

David did not seem to be enjoying his present from being foolish in his footing, at this point in time he had to know that something bad was going to happen if he touched the water but then again no one claimed the boy had an abundance of common sense either. It was rather lucky that there were strict orders not to kill any of the Champions otherwise they might have let the body strangle David to death for his stupidity and her complex, unfortunately they couldn’t allow that so it had to stop. Hopefully it would be a nice reality check for the boy though, it might encourage him from getting too handsy with the bodies again...or well anyone ever. It took a little bit of time for David to recover since the body had choked him to the point he nearly passed out, and it was sure to cause problems for him as the task continued because he’d have issues breathing now. Not to mention he’d be sporting some pretty bruises later, he could use it to impress the ladies later if he wanted. He stepped into the water after the sword and the bodies decided to let him have it, because he’d gotten his lovely boils earlier the arena decided not to give him any other problems. Besides leeches was bad enough at this moment in time.

The flapping of wings was clear overhead and the wind created by the wings was overpowering, if you didn’t grab ahold of something you’d surely get knocked over. The beast landed nearby, the ground shook with the force and the weight of the creature’s touch down. It stood a good deal larger than you and had three heads containing sets of vicious looking teeth, you had the sneaking suspicion that you had better be careful. The sulfur smell that had permeated the air was now replaced with the smell of decay, and of course the only clear explanation of why was the Jabberwocky. Each head likely had a purpose and function, and it was almost certain that you would find out soon enough what each one did whether you wanted to or not which just had you filled with exhilaration. The Creature ignored you right now for the time being, which you weren’t sure if it was a blessing or intentional. Either way your odds of fighting this thing didn’t seem great even if you had your want, no wonder the Queen was so smug about this whole thing. Her intentions of killing you had been clear since she’d seen you, while you may not have realized it that was certainly the case. “You should probably just quit now.” Her sweet voice called from her vantage point, obviously it was just meant to try and screw with your head. You knew you had no choice now, even if you refused she would make you take part in this asinine charade. “Prepare yourself or if you’re too scared give up now.” She called. Everyone stood staring at you, waiting to see what your decision would be.

If the inferi were a curiosity to David, the Jabberwocky was something to be revered. Luckily he knew a predator when he saw one. Still, the sight of the three-headed beast had David wanting to watch it for a few weeks without being seen rather than fighting it. The Hufflepuff knew there was no chance of that happening, but he would be getting a very hands-on session of Care of Magical Creatures to say the least. He wanted nothing more than to see what the beast was made of, but from a book, or from a very dead one if he was lucky.
QUOTE
You should probably just quit now. Prepare yourself or if you’re too scared give up now.

David smirked and a brief chuckle came from his throat. The Queen had no idea what kind of Hufflepuff she had encountered. David lived for creatures and plants! His smile quickly faded though, he was in no way prepared to 'battle' a creature. He knew he had no choice as he glanced over at the Hatter, but wondered if he was giving himself courage or if it was outward influence. Either way, he just hoped to get out of this alive. Drawing the sword fully from the water, David started towards the Jabberwocky. He struck brief poses as he stepped closer trying to get the right feeling for this archaic weapon he had always imagined using. Funny how he was a wizard and yet always saw himself as the hunter or druid. Never the warrior or knight, the teen felt uncomfortable with the blade in his hand.

You have this. You have to have this. He wanted to know what the heads did so that he could work on a strategy, but that would be trial and error. Hopefully without too much error. I wish I had my wand. David whispered as he tightened his grip on the sword and took another step forward to fully engage the beast with three heads.

The moment of truth was here, no matter what you wanted to believe you had to fight this monstrous creature, it wasn’t a matter of choice in this case. How they actually expected you to win you couldn’t be sure, but then again like most things in EHC they probably didn’t want you to win and that was the point. The Jabberwocky roared fiercely as if waiting impatiently for your answer, like it or not you were stuck here right now and everyone was waiting on you. It was nice to have a moment to gather yourself together and prepare for what was coming, however you knew it couldn’t last and if you didn’t get a move on soon they’d force you to like it or not. Looking at the majestic Jabberwocky you couldn’t help but notice how the sun reflected off it’s grey scales, even if you had your wand it was very likely the spells would just rebound off those scales. The last thing you needed to happen was to be shooting off a spell and it rebound on yourself, maybe it was better you didn’t have your wand in this case even if it would bring you some comfort. You looked over the beast trying to assess it for any weakness while you had the time, it would be a lot harder to try and find something on the fly but then again you would be able to see more of it as it was moving around. From your current vantage point you couldn’t make out any besides the eyes, perhaps the webbing of the wings if you could manage to cut them. Grounding the beast would be a definite advantage for you but in order to do that you had to be able to get close enough to do it, and that would bring you in direct range of the heads which just seemed like an all around bad idea. No telling what any one of those heads could do, but you had the sinking feeling you’d soon find out.

David seemed to be amazed by the beast, it appeared he might even consider it a tragedy that he actually had to engage the beast in a fight. He certainly was the oddest out of all the Champions, and that wasn’t in the good way at all. Perhaps his weirdness was what had managed to get him this far, especially considering he had made it further than some of the older Champions but nothing was certain. Chuckling at the Queen was not the smartest decision he could’ve made though, but it was his own stupidity and he would certainly pay for it later on. If he hadn’t learned by now not to trifle with things or people in the arena then he was certainly stupider than anyone ever guessed but that really wouldn’t be shock, no one would’ve called him intelligent to begin with. Of course that was kinda a given though wasn’t it? He had signed up for this madness, perhaps he was looking for a little release and was unstable to begin with. Trying to pump himself up was a good idea, he would need all the courage he could get for this but to be honest it wasn’t going to help him much. It was still likely he’d fail and end up Jabberwocky chow, and that was a cheerful thought.

The Jabberwocky shift back and forth clearly impatient for the command from the Queen to attack, you had to admit she had the beast under her thumb. It was clear the beast was anxious to come after you but wouldn’t until she commanded it to do so, so you were safe until she gave the order then all feck would break loose. The Queen looked at you, eyes clearly filled with loathing for you and it was clear to see she was ready to begin this. “Attack!” She cried, voice shrill with excitement. The Jabberwocky didn’t hesitate and launched itself in the air at her command, that made it difficult to fight but you had expected that as soon as you saw it could fly. Soon it was circling you above, it was clear at this point it was just wanting to toy with you. It was likely it would continue to do so until it was bored then it would get serious about finishing you off, and that was certain to be a rip roaring good time. Speaking of roaring the middle head of the beast did that exactly, causing drops of green to rain down on you from above. While it was just annoying at first it soon began to burn you like acid and eat away at your skin, well if that wasn’t just wonderful. Glaring up at it you locked eyes with the head on the right which turned out to be a bad choice, as soon as you did your head was filled with awful screaming. It took a moment for you to realize what it was but when you did it surely made you wish you hadn’t, it was the screams of people you loved and it was clear they were being tortured. Gods you just wanted it to stop.

[[OOC: You have to get hit by some of the acid, how much is up to you. Please describe in detail who your character hears screaming, you can include specific dialect if you wish. Make sure you RP out your character breaking eye contact with the head on the right. Also make sure you try and entice the beast down so your character can engage it. You cannot pick what the third head does, that will be revealed later.]]

David had never really believed in making it this far, but here he was. If anyone were to ask how, it was simply because he survived. The one thing that he knew no one could take away was this: I am a survivor. He looked, mimicking the beasts movements, for any weak spot he could. Predators always had a weakness, they were just harder to find, and this was the most predatory thing David had ever directly encountered and needed to surpass. Think damn it. Look, think, move. He watched as it seemed the Jabberwocky just sat there as if tethered to some invisible leash. David wished against any rational hope that he were the one holding on to that leash.

The Queen looked at you, eyes clearly filled with loathing for you and it was clear to see she was ready to begin this. “Attack!” She cried, voice shrill with excitement.

David winced slightly thinking that the beast would simply bite him in half. Still though, seeing the beast in flight was awe-inspiring for the boy. That's what I want to ride! Not a broom. As it started to circle, David felt like he was a fresh kill and a lone buzzard was just waiting for that last breath of life to escape. Well, you'll have to fight me for that breath. The teen muttered lightly to no one.

As he watched, wondering if the wings could be cut apart, and what they could be used for at the same time. A few green speckled drops fell around him and sizzled lightly, then the middle head roared and a downpour of the green liquid started to fall. Blood? If the creature was already injured then that would make it.... An abrupt yelp stopped his thinking. The "blood" that coated his clothing started to grow hot and sizzle. Aaarrrggghh! David tore at the sleeves of his shirt ripping them off to show swirling designs burned deeply into his arms. He had no time to take them in as he kept one eye one the sky and the other on the ground as he tried to avoid some of the puddles that were popping up full of acidic saliva.

Nearly dropping the sword completely into one pool as he tripped over his own feet, David pulled the dripping blade from the awful solvent and looked back up but was distracted by the right head. Wondering again how he could get the beast down since the middle head could destroy him from where it was, the teen began to stare hard at that right head's eyes. The mistake was known instantly. It was like the Hatter only more sinister because there was not even joy from the creatures torment, just the base need for torment alone. Jai's screams of pain were drowned my moments of Theresa's crying and then those only overpowered by the sounds of crackling flame and his parents sobbing hopelessly. The repeated loop was so loud that David couldn't even comprehend what was being said.

The short screams of Jai's strained voice calling out for him made him shake.Theresa's cries were there only to confuse him with unconventional feelings. The crackling fire over his parents sobs were almost soothing, but depressing as he could tell they had given up hope. That was the most awful thing he could have imagined. His father would never quit. His mother would never roll over. No matter how he tried though as long as he looked at the beast's right head the sounds continued.

Moving the sword to one hand, and losing a bit of strength behind it, David quickly looked away to the ground. He had felt rocks beneath his feet, he just had to get near them. David looked back up, but only to eye level. He kept the winged horror in his peripheral vision so that he would be able to dodge an attack as he started to slink over to the rocky outcrop. Finally seeing some throw-able rocks near him, David bent down, sword still in his right hand, and picked one up and launched it with all of his strength. It fell well short. He could almost feel the laughter coming from those assembled to watch his demise. Grumbling, the Hufflepuff tore off one of his pant legs and wiped the blade quickly but still his left hand was lightly blistered as he dropped the smoldering cloth.

Finding a clear enough spot to turn in, David decided to use his greatest ally: Nature. Holding the sword at an angle he attempted to reflect the sunlight into the Jabberwocky's eyes.

The Champions were now past the point of no return whether they liked it or not, the Jabberwocky was after them and it was, thankfully, the final task. It had taken monumental effort to get here but you had to wonder if after everything they even considered it worth it after everything, probably not but that was their fault for entering. Perhaps next term everyone who considered entering would heed better than these Champions had, and they would truly consider the risk. Then again the promise of Eternal Glory blinded many people until it was far too late, it was a beautiful thing in most cases honestly. Of course anyone participating might not agree with that assessment but that didn’t matter, you reaped what you sowed whether it was a good or bad decision and all you could do was own what you’d done. The Queen was watching the Jabberwocky circle overhead, she cackled as the acid landed on your skin. Of course she would be pleased to see you maimed again, she had been plotting your demise since the moment she saw you so you really shouldn’t be surprised. Then again all the characters here seemed to relish in your pain, it wasn’t the most pleasant thing and surely made you a touch irritable. However, it just went to show you there were awful people in the world who would take joy in your failures and pains. It didn’t necessarily make it right but it still happened whether you liked it or not, the world was a rough place and you needed to be prepared for whatever it chose to throw at you.

David examined the beast with a well trained eye, obviously he had at least hunted something before. It was amazing too see what these challenges brought out in the Champions, you learned so much about them and they learned so much about themselves. It was a total win win situation, okay none of the Champions would probably agree to that but that really didn’t matter. If their opinions had counted for anything at all in the tournament things would have gone entirely different for them. David didn’t seem too impressed by the acid that the beast was able to spit, hopefully it didn’t continue to eat away at his flesh until none was left. Talk about an awful way to die. He did surprise the beast by shining the light in it’s eyes, that was a clever trick to get it to stop. However, it was clear to see the beast had done its work with that head. It seemed like the screams impacted poor David greatly, the beast knew it and was going to use the weakness to it’s advantage just like David would press his.

It seemed like for the time being the head on the right had to be the worst, but then again if the one on the left was waiting to reveal it’s powers then it had to be infinitely worse. The Queen hooted, cheering on her champion and the guards joined in with her. Of course Hatter was silent again, it seemed like someone had sewed his mouth back up so he wasn’t spitting bugs anymore. Even still you knew he was dangerous if he decided to use his telepathy, that was a constant threat you had to be aware of. If you hadn’t figured it out by now you would soon learn the Queen would not give you a fair fight, she would cheat or do whatever she had to if it assured she was the one who came out victorious. But then again wasn’t that anyone at the end of the day? That meant you had to do everything you possibly could to tip the scales in your favor, even though the Queen would surely cry foul if you did it. Now that the beast had released you from the horrible screams of your loved ones you did your best to avoid it’s eyes. As it flew around you stepped around, trying to follow it so it didn’t come down and surprise you. Unfortunately that meant you had to keep your eyes on the sky and not on where you were stepping, that made things extremely tricky given the terrain of your battlefield. Your left foot slipped into the water and suddenly it was seized by one of the bodies in the marsh. The faces in the water had now changed from humanoid to something more sinister and it was clear you had to get away because if you didn’t they would pull you in and drown you.

[[OOC: RP out getting away from the bodies in the marshes, be creative in how you do it. Remember even as your character struggles they still face the threat from the Jabberwocky above who can rain acid on them on torture them with the screams.]]

David could barely concentrate. The burns on his arms were getting worse and they had started shaking from the pain. There was no longer any thought of the trials he had faced, or the one he was currently facing. The Queen was background noise. The Hatter an ever present threat that loomed in the back of his mind that he kept at bay only by performing the way he thought the Queen wanted him to: unfairly. The Jabberwocky was his whole life now, except when that right head's eyes pierced his mind, then it was all about the tortured souls of his loved ones. He had to find a way to get over that. If their dying and tortured voices kept bringing him to his knees then there was no way for him to survive. You are the one in danger! If you don't survive you can't save them! The Hufflepuff teen berated himself as he dodged the acid as best he could.

As he jumped around near the outcropping, the jeering crowd still seemed as far away as another world. The acid puddles were a bright reminder to jump, but even then David could tell his shoes would not last much longer by the feeling of a slightly smoldering heat from the soles of his feet. Unfortunately for him, David only had two eyes and could not watch the sky, the acid, the Jabberwocky and the pools of inferi all at once. It was just too bad the the latter of all of them turned out to be his next big threat and not the flying monstrosity or the telepathic masochist. Slipping into a pool, the water instantly felt cool to his foot. If only his arms could get that... The next step would not come. David did sneak a quick peek to his leg to see that one of the floating bodies had grabbed his ankle.

Tugging with all of his might, the grip only got harder. In a panicked movement, David looked quickly to the sky as he gave a particularly hard wretch. He simply plummeted into the pool. As he started to sink, or rather drowned, David noticed the once generally serene faces looked as if they were attempting to drain his life for some ghastly exchange of essence. His lungs burned as the pool seemed deeper than what he had originally seen in any of them. As his chest felt as if it were going to burst he had a wildly hilarious thought compared to his current situation: At least my arms don't burn anymore. As a few more lazy bubbles leaked from the corners of his mouth, David felt something flat and hard hit his shin. The sword! He didn't have fire, nor a wand, but he could cut and maim and decapitate his way to the surface!

David tucked his legs as best he could as the pressure of the dead bodies kept surrounding him, and swung. The blade flashed in a rather dull way as it began to sever limbs and heads with each wildly swung hack that the teen could produce. When he felt a bit of room around him, David kicked wildly. His lungs had passed their normal capacity many seconds ago and they were letting him know it with violent heaves as he finally broke the surface. He was standing? David would have sworn he had been driven miles below the water. Then again he had never been close to drowning before. It was quite astounding how many near death experiences he felt he was having this year! As he took a step to leave the limb strewn pool, again he was attacked. Keeping his this time, pun intended, the Hufflepuff took blade to flesh and bone without a second thought.

Looking briefly at the outcropping, David figured he had to get to the Hatter or Queen. The Jabberwocky just seemed to be too much of a force to deal with. He would fight the screams coming from his tortured soul if he had to face the right head. He would just have to avoid the acid of the middle head if it landed. The left was still a mystery. It was a mystery he wanted solved, but at his leisure. His plan felt hopeless immediately, he'd have to get the Hatter first, but that seemed impossible. Then the guards, and the Jabberwocky before the Queen... A heavy sigh escaped his lips as he glared back up at the beast swimming majestically through the sky as if telling the general rules of physics to piss off.

No matter what I have to face you don't I? He started talking to the beast in the same way he talked to any other predator, be it plant or animal. I don't want to face you. I don't know if I can win, but if I do, know that you made me stronger. I will learn from you. I just hope I can give you the same sport. It was a mantra that David's father had taught him. It was taught to him by the same man who had taught David to be a survivalist. I am going to survive. He whispered to himself for a bit of confidence boosting. The teen angled the blade again to constantly shift the reflective sunlight into the eyes of all three heads. If he could keep it off balance enough to force it to land then he had a percentage of a chance. Maybe not one that counted to anyone but him, but enough to fight for.

It was an unbelievable moment for you, as the earlier tasks had progressed you had grown to loathe the forest and everything it represented. However, now you likely were longing for it. The terrain would’ve offered you cover from the nasty Jabberwocky and you wouldn’t have to worry about your footing either, but then again everything in the Tasks were by design so you knew picking the marshes was no accident. Just when you thought things couldn’t get worse they managed to somehow, and in the end it always screwed you over. Okay so maybe that was a little harsh but it certainly seemed true in this case, and after everything you’d endured thus far you certainly reserved the right to be as harsh as you wanted. In fact you certainly deserved to be as fecking insane as dramatic as you wanted when this was over, because this entire thing had turned into an epic shit show just to amuse everyone else. The idea that you, as a Champion, might get something out of this was absolutely ridiculous and just something they were using as a cover to get away with everything they were doing to you. Not to mention the Ministry was involved too, how they didn’t see past the bull crap the Headmaster was spewing about EHC you would never know, either way you’d be glad when the entirety of this thing was finally over. However, in order for that to happen you had to get finish up this task. Then you’d be free forever and they could never hurt you again as you assumed a reclusive lifestyle to deal with the trauma you endured.

The fact that David managed to focus so well on the only important things in this task was amazing, perhaps he had learned something from his abilities after all. Although, he needed to be extremely careful that he didn’t blind himself to the possibilities of something else happening to him, if he only focused on a few things it would be entirely too easy to take advantage of his ignorance. The body grabbing his ankle was a reminder that no matter how hard he focused on what mattered there were still dangers lurking everywhere waiting to take advantage of him in any way they could. The boy was witty to use the sword to dismember the bodies in the water, it affected them just like it would any other living creature. It seemed like whereas he might of been hesitant about attacking like this at one point in time he wasn’t now, the tournament was changing him in ways he never imagined. Thinking he could get to the Queen and Hatter was cute, if he tried to approach them at the bottom of the rocky outcropping he’d find an invisible wall. No matter how he might try to get through or around it he wouldn’t be able to, they weren’t important in this Task anyways. They were there for a purpose for sure but that was not who he was supposed to interact with in a physical manner, but obviously he was too stupid to realize that. Not that anyone was surprised by his stupidity anymore. It was cute to think he could blind all three heads at once, and for that matter the eyes of the middle head did nothing.

As the Champion escaped the water and got back on solid land, well mostly solid, the Jabberwocky soared overhead occasionally releasing a roar to remind you of it’s presence which in the scheme of things seemed extremely unnecessary because it was highly unlikely you’d forget a giant flying monster who was trying to kill you was there but hey whatever they needed to do. You had learned for sure now you had to be careful of your footing, a swim in the water would only end badly if you weren’t careful. Then again everyone but you wanted this to end badly so you could be turned into a big show, even if you were taken down it wouldn’t change anything about this tournament or stop it from happening again so there was no point in trying to play martyr. Suddenly the Jabberwocky dove down at you, the left and right head remained in the air but the middle head’s mouth was dripping acid again as it’s jaws snapped at you before it resumed it’s position overhead. Great, now it wanted to make a snack out of you. You couldn’t wait to make a freaking shishkabob out of the damn thing, that would bring you some peace for once. You stepped into a soft spot again but didn’t sink into the water thankfully by some miracle of god (or whoever you prayed to), however while you checked your footing you managed to briefly make eye contact with the left head, and what a mistake it turned out to be. As soon as you made eye contact you were paralyzed and couldn’t move as much as you might want to or tried to, once you were fully paralyzed the racking pains of the spell crucio took over and you were helpless to do anything but endure it. The Jabberwocky dropped down and flew directly at you, when he was in range he used his tail to hit you. So much for avoiding the water.

[[OOC: After you are hit by the tail, this isn’t optional, you will obviously be knocked over at least, possibly go flying. This means you will have broken eye contact with the left head.]]

David kept shifting position to keep the Jabberwocky in his line of sight. It was unfortunate that the beast was able to fly. He could not quite see well enough to find a weakness. The thought both thrilled and terrified him: I need the beast to land. Flashing the sword between the eyes at least gave the Hufflepuff hunter a hint at something. Is the middle head blind? It never reacted when the sun reflected into its eyes. Maybe it's a blind spot? His mind started to race into different strategies. Maybe I can battle one head at a time? More options started to come to mind as his foot hit something that wasn't marsh, but wasn't rock. It seemed to be more solid, but spongy.

The change was nice and the few steps he was able to take safely gave him a bit of confidence. It seemed the beast could tell and let out a roar to remind David of what he was dealing with as well as another rain of acidic saliva. David began to move aside before noticing the middle head making a snap at him. Ducking and cringing as acid fell on his back and began burning more swirls into his skin David just avoided becoming some skewered snack torn between the three heads. Rolling over quickly, hoping to wipe the acid off with the moist mossy grass, David jumped up and brandished the sword again trying to keep the flying assassin in his sights.

He had to stay away from the water. The rocks didn't provide good enough footing. David knew he needed to stay on that mossy patch, but that's exactly where they wanted him. With the Hatter here he would end up there no matter what he did. Anger started to boil inside him at having to be manipulated in such a way. He wanted to be free! The next step brought a more firm footing. Checking the step to make sure the next would be safe, David looked down for just a moment. That moment proved to be a decisive one.

Looking back up, David locked eyes with the left head's eyes. He couldn't move. There was no panic, he just could not move. His body would not respond. Now there was panic. He couldn't control his body. No response, again. His thoughts were his own? But then... It started. David did not know if he was screaming aloud or if it was in his head. His ears were not ringing, but he could hear no sound. Nothing, not even the feeling of his bones being broken into cubes as if being chiseled through his skin. The burning skin. Blistering in the cold heat of dead nerve endings. He could feel the crackling flame and cold singe of dead flesh. He could smell the sickening sweet roast of flesh. He could not see as his eyes melted in their sockets over and over again.

The torture went on for eternity, and then he was flying? A skidding splash brought him gulping for breath as he felt hands start to pull him under the water again. The sword?! Luckily in being unable to move, his hands had locked on to the hilt of the blade. Letting the hands pull, David waited as any good predator would and then began hacking away at everything that came near him. He was beyond rage now. David had learned and knew better than to give in completely, but he would tap into it and use it. Just like when he could focus and make small changes happen, he would do the same and take control of this rage. His hair flared a burning red, his eyes began to run through every shade and hue imaginable, David began to kick to reach the surface of the water. He hacked and severed anything that came near as he made his way to more solid ground.

If the Jabberwocky could laugh you were sure it would be, but it couldn’t so you had to use your imagination at this point which shouldn’t be too hard. However the beast still was in power when it came down to it and if you weren’t careful you were going to end up as Jabberwocky chow which wouldn’t be the highlight of your day or anyone else’s for that matter honestly. It roared overhead and you couldn’t be sure at this point but it looked like the middle head actually spit acid at you this time as opposed to just having it drip down on you. As if the festering, stinking marshes wasn’t enough now several puddles of acid were beginning to appear around you so you now doubly had to watch your footing or else you were in even worse trouble than before but when wasn’t that during EHC? However, it was rather difficult considering there was a giant beast above you in the sky who wanted to make dinner out of you, for you were crunchy and tasted good with catsup. So maybe that was a bad joke but still, the Jabberwocky wouldn’t be content until it had taken you down at least. “Do you give up yet you pathetic creature?” The Queen called, obviously still hell bent on taunting you through this whole process. Of course it was probably just a distraction technique so you’d do well not to fall for it, but then again none of the Champions were what anyone would call shining examples of intelligence so it was more likely they’d fall for it and shoot their mouth off at the Queen and leave themselves vulnerable. One thing could be said for the Champions and that was that they were a bunch of suckers, it was a given they’d fall for just about anything thrown in front of their face while ignoring the important things they needed to pay attention to.

David thought that he was so very smart, but unfortunately that was not the case with this or in anything really. While it was nice to think the middle head was blind it wasn’t the case, it just wasn’t sensitive like the eyes of the left and right head. In fact the middle head’s only purpose was to drip skin eating acid down on the Champions, giving the Jabberwocky three heads with all the eyes having awesome powers just wouldn’t have been fair to the Champions so they had been cut a “break” with the middle one though it was highly unlikely they probably appreciated such a thing being the little ingrates they were. While the idea to battle the heads one at a time was a good one it came with one big flaw, he still had two other heads to worry about at the same time that were equally as dangerous or maybe even more so. As soon as David locked eyes with the left head he froze, and then the screams began. It was like music to everyone’s ears, some of the crowd gasped not understanding what was happening but the rest gave roaring cheers of delight even though it would go unheard in the arena which was sad because it might help David out but then again nothing was likely to help him out. David went soaring spectacularly if this write did say so, it was quite a view momentarily then he turned into a mad man. Luckily he had been able to keep the sword, he needed it as he painted the water as read as his hair.

The laughs of the Queen echoed through the area, you were getting really annoyed with her (likely surely everyone else) but as it was she was untouchable and there was nothing you could do about it right now or likely ever. The Jabberwocky dove at you again but it seemed more like a taunt then actually trying to get you or harm you, likely it was a matter of trying to keep you off balance at this point so it could continue toying with you. Well it seemed like that until the right head’s eyes locked with your’s and you got hit again by the tail. This was getting rather old and it didn’t seem like you were getting the upper hand, but you had to go on. The tail didn’t hit you as hard this time thankfully as you surely had a mark from last time but you still got knocked into a puddle of acid, but since you weren’t paralyzed you were able to scramble out quickly and break eye contact with the right head. The sword had flown from your hand and panicked you looked around for it, searching it was nowhere to be seen at this point which didn’t bode well for you but then again nothing in this tournament boded well for you. As the panic threatened to overwhelm you that was when you spotted it, well not the sword you were seeking but something else. In a deep watery area on the marsh next to you was a bubble of acid under the water, and in the bubble was clear as day your wand. However, it was surrounded by more bodies then you’d seen thus far. As you spotted you wand you noticed a glint about thirty yards from you in the opposite direction that appeared to be the sword, it looked like it was decision time. The question was which one did you pick, and was that really your wand?

[[OOC: RP out your character going after your wand, sword or both. You are not allowed to decide if the wand is really there. Remember the Jabberwocky is still overhead so make sure your character interacts with him.]]
